• Family Notes

Dear SPARK Families,

Thank you to all of our families who joined us for our Tennis Shoes & Tiaras Dance and our Black History Month Program. Both events were a success, and we are so proud of our students and staff for their participation, performances, and positive energy. Your support and presence truly make our school community stronger.

As we look ahead, Spring Break is coming up soon! We hope your family enjoys a safe, restful, and fun time together. Thank you for your continued partnership and for being such an important part of our SPARK family.

With appreciation,
Principal Labrie

Uniform & Safety Policy Reminder

To help keep our students safe, Crocs and backless shoes are not allowed. Students participate in daily PE and outdoor recess, so closed-toe shoes with backs or sneakers are encouraged for safety.

Additionally, all backpacks must be clear. This helps us maintain a safe and secure school environment. Below are some examples of what students should come to school with:

✅ YES Prep branded shirts
✅ YES Prep outerwear (jackets or sweaters with the YES Prep logo)
✅ Any bottoms except leggings

We will be enforcing the uniform policy daily. Please help us by ensuring your child comes to school in the proper attire so they can focus on learning and stay safe during the day.

Academic monitoring is essential because it helps teachers identify learning gaps early, provide immediate feedback, and keep students consistently engaged with grade‑level content. When monitoring is consistent, students build stronger academic habits, improve accuracy in core skills, and stay on track with essential TEKS.

Effective monitoring directly supports testing outcomes. Students who receive frequent check‑ins develop better stamina, confidence, and problem‑solving behaviors that transfer to district and state assessments. By catching misconceptions early and reinforcing skills regularly, monitoring increases mastery of tested standards and leads to stronger overall performance.

3rd-5th Grade Attendance

Parents, there has been an uptick in student tardies, especially in 3rd through 5th grade. When students arrive after 8:00 am, they've missed the first half of their instructional block. Missing the first instructional block everyday puts our SPARKS at risk for widening their academic gaps. We are 33 Days away from our STAAR Reading assessment.

It is our ask that ALL SPARKS are at school and seated by 7:30 am.

Thank you for your attention to this matter in ensuring our SPARKS are successful!

Late Pick-Ups

We have seen an increase in late student pick-ups. Please remember that dismissal is from 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM, and the gate closes promptly at 3:30 PM.

Students should be picked up on time every day. If late pick-ups continue, a corrective action will be issued.

Thank you for helping us keep all students safe and supervised.

Support for Our Families in Need

Our NFE community is rallying together to support two of our SPARK families who are facing significant hardships.

1. Family Impacted by House Fire
One of our families recently lost their home in a devastating house fire. If you are willing and able, donations can be made through their GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-wendys-mother-recover-after-house-fire?aiCoach=true. The campus will also be accepting clothing donations for the students in the following sizes:

  • Boys: Size 7/8 and Size 14/16
  • Girls: Size 6/7, Size 7/8, and Size 12

Any support—big or small—is deeply appreciated as we help them rebuild and recover.

2. Loss of a Founding SPARK
We also share with heavy hearts that we have lost a very special SPARK, one of our founding students who joined NFE when we opened our doors to the North Forest community in 2023–2024. He passed away after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

If families would like to support and are able, a GoFundMe page has been created to assist his family with funeral expenses: Fundraiser by Anselmo Medrano : In Loving Memory of Jose Anselmo Medrano. Your generosity during this heartbreaking time brings comfort and strength to those who loved him.

Help Us Keep Our Campus Vandalism‑Free

Families,

We are asking for your partnership in helping us maintain a clean, safe, and vandalism‑free campus. Every week, we discover writing and drawing in our restrooms, and we want to remind all students about the importance of respecting school property and taking pride in our shared spaces.

Please take a moment to talk with your child about:

  • Treating our school building with care

  • Reporting any vandalism they see

  • Making positive choices in shared spaces like restrooms, hallways, and classrooms

Our goal is to keep NFE a place we are all proud of, and your support at home makes a big difference. Thank you for helping us reinforce these expectations and keep our campus welcoming for every student.

Ayúdenos a Mantener un Campus Libre de Vandalismo

Familias,
